Speaker: Dr. Josh Kalman

Dr. Josh Kalman is a clinical psychologist and owner of Saint Joseph’s Psychological Services, LLC. He obtained his Master’s (M.S.) and doctoral degree (Psy.D.) from Divine Mercy University. His research focused on addressing male internet pornography addiction through the virtues of self-control and love. In his clinical work, Dr. Kalman combines his background in psychology with the teachings of the Catholic Church to help address the whole person. Dr. Kalman’s experiences range from working with adolescents in the Washington, DC court system to working in an Intensive Outpatient and Partial hospitalization program. He also has many years working in non-profits and private practice where his focus is on longer term therapy to address underlying causes of depression, anxiety, trauma, marital problems, and pornography addiction.

Liturgical Catechesis: The Parts of the Mass | Issue 6 / 40

After the priest and people have announced God's presence by exchanging the greeting, the introductory rites continue with the penitential rite.

In this rite, we prepare to celebrate Word and Eucharist by acknowledging our sinfulness and asking God for forgiveness.

There are three forms of the penitential rite: the recitation of the Confiteor (I confess . . .) by the entire assembly, a brief dialogue between the priest and the people, and a longer dialogue that incorporates the Kyrie Eleison (Lord, have mercy).

There is no set method for choosing which form will be used on any given Sunday, and the third form provides several different sets of invocations which fit different seasons and celebrations.

The penitential rite ends with an absolution wherein the priest asks God to forgive the sins of the gathered community and bring us to everlasting life.

Después de que el sacerdote y el pueblo hayan anunciado la presencia de Dios intercambiando el saludo, los ritos introductorios continúan con el rito penitencial.

En este rito, nos preparamos para celebrar la Palabra y la Eucaristía reconociendo nuestro pecado y pidiendo perdón a Dios.

Hay tres formas de rito penitencial: la recitación del Confiteor (Confieso...) por toda la asamblea, un breve diálogo entre el sacerdote y el pueblo, y un diálogo más largo que incorpora el Kyrie Eleison (Señor, ten piedad).
