We have journeyed through the weeks of Advent — a season of hope, repentance, and joyful expectation. Today, on this Fourth Sunday of Advent, the Church invites us to pause and contemplate the nearness of the Lord. The candles on our Advent wreath are almost all burning, reminding us that the Light of the World is about to break into our darkness.

On this Sunday of Advent, the mood of the liturgy shifts from the intense calls to conversion to a focus on the events immediately surrounding the birth of Jesus. All the readings from the prophets, the apostles, and the gospels cluster around the mystery announced to Mary by the Angel Gabriel and the Holy Family of Nazareth. The Holy Spirit is powerfully at work in the Church now as he filled the womb of the Virgin Mary with his power.

In the first reading, the prophet Isaiah speaks in the year 734 BC when King Ahaz was facing a very powerful enemy. Isaiah urged Ahaz to have faith in the Lord’s power to deliver Jerusalem, and he offered the king a sign from the Lord. When the king hypocritically refused, Isaiah angrily proclaimed that a sign would be given him anyway, the sign of a virgin with a child whose name shall be called Emmanuel, which means “God with us.” God is with his people in the midst of their powerful enemies.

Liturgical Catechesis: The Parts of the Mass | Issue 27 / 40

The Fraction Rite, or breaking of bread, occurs right after we have exchanged the Sign of Peace. This element of the Communion Rite is not as functional now as it was in an earlier era, when whole loaves were provided by the people for the celebration of the Eucharist

However, the powerful meaning of the rite remains as strong as ever. By breaking and sharing the one bread—which is Christ—we become one!

The Lamb of God litany is sung or spoken to accompany this rite, and the raising of our voices together is another sign of unity.

This litany came from the East into the Roman Church sometime in the late seventh century, introduced by Pope Sergius I.

This ministry began in 1998, in the warmth of homes, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

On March 3, 2001, the first Mass was celebrated in Markham Park, where the first 3,000 rosaries made by this beautiful ministry were distributed. The ministry is comprised of women of faith who, moved by their love for the Virgin Mary and their desire to serve, meet every Wednesday in an atmosphere of prayer, sisterhood, and dedication.

At each meeting, the Rosary Makers pray the Holy Rosary with the Virgin Mary, meditate on the Gospel of the day, and share a space for dialogue, support, and mutual comfort. Over time, this ministry has become a true community of faith and friendship, where Our Mother Mary molds us like clay in her hands through her beloved Son, Jesus.

In addition to prayer, the members learn to make rosaries, crafted with devotion and distributed as a tangible sign of love and hope in various missions around the world. We have reached Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Chile, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. We also support our parish groups, catechism classes, Emmaus retreats, visits to clinics, and prison ministry, always bringing a message of comfort and hope through our rosaries.

The mission of the Rosary Makers Ministry is to promote devotion to the Holy Rosary and extend, through each bead, a message of faith, love, and hope.

The ministry rests on three fundamental pillars:

  • Community prayer: a weekly meeting to pray the Rosary and meditate on the Word of God.
  • Fraternity and consolation: a space of mutual support where friendship, listening, and solidarity flourish.
  • Missionary service: making rosaries for the parish's various evangelizing works.

Meetings: Every Wednesday

Location: SKD - Portables

Time: 9:30am – 1:00pm
